Happy Independence Day!

You may remember me saying this a few days ago:

"So this Fourth of July weekend we'll be sitting on the airport, watching the fireworks light up the sky and the fireflies dance in the field; and maybe make some smores over a bonfire. :)"

Well, it finally came. Fourth of July. Independence Day. A day that is always celebrated with cookouts, campfires, water games, and lots and lots of explosives.

...at least for most people.

This year, because we live on an airport, because the fairgrounds are less than 3 miles away, and because everyone in the surrounding area has been letting off fireworks for the last 3 days, we decided not to buy any of our own fireworks.

So nightfall came, and we waited for the fireworks to start.

Nothing. No fireworks.

(Okay, so maybe there were 1 or 2, but still...)

So at 10:30pm, we went to Wal-Mart and bought our own. >:)

We had bright ones...

We had green stripey ones...

We had rainbow ones...

We had shiny ones...

We had sparkly ones...

We had some that look like golden showers of sparks...

We even had some that went "Snap! Crackle! Pop!"

To our disappointment, we didn't have any that flew into the sky and exploded satisfactorily; but we had a good time anyways.

...Even if we didn't get to see any other fireworks last night.

It didn't start out as the best Independence Day ever for a couple reasons, and I was kind of in a bad mood about it at first; but at the end of the day, we had our little fireworks display and each other.

And you know what? That's just fine with me.
